Principal sources of genealogical information in Zimbabwe, aside from death notices, are graveyards and gravestones. Zimbabwe's Cemeteries are valuable source of genealogy research information. Regrettably this information remains basically untapped and has not been transcribed for publication or research. This web space shall hopefully provide a platform for collecting gravestone information and photographs which may be shared with genealogists world-wide.

The Zimbabwean Cemeteries Act [Chapter 5:04] provides for the administration and protection of grave yards in Zimbabwe. Most Cemeteries come under the control of Municipalities and Urban Councils which provide land for this purpose in the towns and cities. Several religious denominations have graveyards within church and mission precincts.










Zimbabwe's Graveyards Zimbabwe has many graveyards, with cemeteries in almost every town. There are pioneer graves, some of which fall under the control oNational Museums and Monuments; military graves maintained by organisations such as the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, and many church, especially mission grave yards.
